Event Details
The Black Cat 10-20 miler presented by 2020 Exhibits was created in 2010 in Salem, MA by B&S EVENT MANAGEMENT. The Black Cat road race was at first designed with intent to provide a training race that would attract marathon runners especially those training for the Boston Marathon. Being 20min North of Boston, there was no longer distance race in close proximity to the Boston area, so there the Black Cat Sprung. It wasn't until later the event spiraled into not only a 20miler, but a 10miler and Relay option as well. For many non-marathon runners, the 10mile option provided a much needed winter goal to dust off the sneakers and start the spring race season with a bang!
With blazing temperatures for the first weekend in March in 2010, the event surpassed 700 runners in its first year and as of February 2012 over the 800 mark.
Course Details
The 20 mile course is a two loop run with a few rolling hills, some good down hills and gorgeous scenic views. The event starts and finishes at the Bentley School which takes runners through the Historic Streets of Salem, up and through the scenic Marblehead Neck and around back into downtown Salem.
